Frequently asked questions about Green Balance

FAQ
Is my battery compatible with Green Balance?

Compatibility depends on how Green Balance can communicate with the system. Therefore, make sure your inverter is supported before installation.

Contact Green Hero or your installer for an up-to-date compatibility check.

Do I need to change my electricity contract?

In order for us to control your resources, Green Hero needs to have an agreement with the balance responsible party (BRP).

Therefore, it is easier to choose Green Hero's electricity contract when using Green Balance.

How do I get started with Green Balance?

To get started with Green Balance, contact a local installer or Green Hero.

If the installer is not already a Green Hero partner, they can apply to become one.

When do I get paid for support services?

Once your facility is activated, you will be paid at the end of the month, 60 days from the winning bid.

When will my facility be activated for the Green Balance VPP?

Once you have installed a Green Balance module, your installer will notify us that your installation has been connected. Your installation will then be pre-qualified with a new group and may take up to 12 weeks before you can make your first bid.

Why is my battery mostly on 50% SoC?

The battery's state of charge may vary depending on the active service, control strategy and operating mode. If the battery remains at around 50% and you want to confirm that this is correct for your system, contact support@greenhero.com.

When and where do I receive revenue for Green Balance?

To receive your allowance, certain requirements must be met:

The Green Balance module must be properly installed by one of our installer partners.
You must have an active electricity trading contract where Bixia is your BRP.

Once these parameters are in place, you will automatically be contacted by our support department who will ask for your bank details.

At the end of the month, 60 days after the first winning bid, payment is made for your facility.

NOTE! We never ask for bank details beyond the payment of Green Balance and it will always come from support@greenhero.com.

Who do I contact if my inverter or battery is not working properly?

Contact the installer of your solar or battery system first. The behaviour of the inverter and battery may depend on several factors unrelated to Green Balance. The installer can troubleshoot the system and, if necessary, escalate the case to Green Hero.

Knowledge issues
How can a battery support the grid?

Battery storage systems can contribute both to solving local grid challenges, such as grid bottlenecks, and to addressing larger system issues such as frequency deviations. Thanks to their fast reaction times, batteries are particularly well suited for frequency regulation, where they can be activated significantly faster than traditional power plants. The short delay between control signal and power output makes battery storage an effective tool for these types of services.

How are payments calculated?

Payments for ancillary services are based on the allocated capacity (MW) and the hourly market price for the respective service, e.g. FCR-D up/down. Compensation is calculated per hour and summed up on a monthly basis.

Your compensation varies depending on the market demand when we place your bids and how much power you have to bid with.

Why do all operators have different calculations for the remuneration of support services?

All batteries participating in support services via Green Hero operate on Svenska Kraftnät's market. The compensation is based on the available power (kW) - i.e. how much power your battery is ready to deliver. The higher the available power, the higher the compensation, according to a linear model.

Svenska Kraftnät pays for this availability, and the compensation is divided between Green Hero, our partners and you as a battery owner. All parties receive a predetermined share, and as a customer you receive the largest share of the compensation.

Who pays for the electricity that fills my battery when using support services?

The electricity imported into your battery is paid for as usual by the property owner and counts as purchased electricity.

What do power tariffs mean for me as a Green Balance user?

There is no longer a national requirement for all electricity network operators to introduce demand-based charges by 2027. Network operators may still use demand-based charges in their pricing models, so the rules that apply depend on your network operator and network agreement.

Green Balance can help reduce power peaks when peak demand affects the network charge.

The pre-qualification
What is the pre-qualification process?

Read more about the requirements and process on Svenska kraftnät's prequalification page.

What is the pre-qualification process for expanding the existing group?

When installing a Green Balance Module to a plant already pre-qualified with Green Balance below 100kW, this plant will be pre-qualified into an existing group.

This extension usually takes place once a month and takes about 8 weeks before it is approved by Svenska Kraftnät.

When do revenues start?

Once your site is qualified in the portfolio/group, and your electricity contract is active, your site will be activated for the service. You will then be paid at the end of the month, 60 days from the first winning bid.
