Solar cells & batterier · KUNSKAPSGUIDE
Need a home battery? Start with the need, not the size
Distinguish storage, power and reserve power. Here you get the questions that make a battery quote easier to assess.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN ONE MINUTE
- kWh beskriver lagrad energi; kW beskriver hur snabbt den kan användas.
- Self-use, price control and reserves are different benefits that must be coordinated.
- Backup power in the event of an outage requires a dedicated solution - a regular battery is not enough by itself.
What problem do you want to solve?
A battery can store solar energy for later and in some solutions help control the power output. Some facilities may also be part of a service for reserves. Write down which need you actually prioritize before comparing models.
"Save electricity from lunch to night" is a clearer goal than "have a large battery". Specify how much energy you want to move, when it is needed and which other functions must remain at the same time.

Capacity and output need to match
Usable capacity in kWh and peak output in kW answer different questions. A battery may have enough stored energy for the evening but too little power for several large loads at the same time.
As a separate unit exercise, 8 kWh of useful energy can theoretically last four hours at a steady load of 2 kW. It assumes that there is sufficient output power. Actual operation is affected by charge level, limitations, losses and how usage varies.

What is required for reserve power?
The Energy Agency describes that operation in the event of a power cut requires an emergency power function with safe separation from the grid and approval from the grid company. The feature is not something you can assume comes with every battery.
Ask for a concrete answer: which loads operate in the event of an interruption, with what effect and for how long under specified conditions? An outlet for selected loads and supplying the entire house are different solutions.

Count the benefits separately
First, make a scenario for the use you need at home. Then add any price control or reserve income with clear assumptions. Do not add benefits that assume that the same capacity is completely free at the same time.
An own control model is to write three columns: certain need, possible benefit and uncertain income. If the calculation only works with a high future reserve income, you immediately see which part of the decision is most sensitive.

The quote should make this clear
Ask the supplier for usable capacity, power limits, compatibility and what the warranty actually covers. Ask about location, installation, support and what happens if communication or an external service stops working.
Compare the entire investment with several operating outcomes. Costs for installation and any add-ons need to be included, as well as recurring fees. A quote that separates the product's performance from an uncertain market revenue becomes easier to decide on.
- What can the system do from the day of delivery?
- Which feature requires a separate agreement or add-on?
- How does warranty and terms of use affect your planned operation?

FAQ.
Do I have to have solar cells to have a battery?
Technical solutions may look different. Ask what the product in question supports and what contractual or tax conditions apply to the particular use. This guide does not count on deductions.
Can I store summer solar for winter?
A regular home battery is mainly used for shorter displacements. Covering long periods of low output requires much larger storage capacity.
